Redemption Ricciardo
“To anyone who thought I left, I never left.” Ladies and gentlemen, that’s Danny Ric for you. To anyone who questions his decision to leave Red Bull, he did it for this. He did it for the joy of competing; he did it to prove he’s not in the sport to play second fiddle to anyone but is here based on pure talent - a talent that isn’t overshadowed by the “number one” of a team.
“He won! He bloody did it!” - Daniel Ricciardo is a race winner once more, and boy, did he deserve it. That start, fearless. That drive, flawless. That win, priceless. That smile, timeless. The Honey Badger is here to stay, you all.
And Lando. Lando, Lando, Lando. What a driver. The definition of a team player. So, so mature. A part of Danny’s victory is his too. His defence against Lewis in the Sprint as well as in the race basically materialised Ricciardo’s chances of a win. His overtakes, impeccable. Compelling the team to ask him to hold position and not fight his teammate for the win even though he had fresher tyres, so selfless. He’s grown so much over the past three years, and it has been a pleasure to watch.
“I’ll have my chance in the future.” The way he’s driving and maturing, this almost seems inevitable.
“The more I watch Lando, the more he reminds me of young Kimi. Kimi came of age in his 3rd season, too, finished P2 behind Schumi and bullied his veteran McLaren teammate, Coulthard. I am not a fan of most of the cliches Brundle uses, but Lando is indeed fearless. His overtake moves are so reminiscent of some of Kimi’s - finds a gap and hurls it through.”
McLaren. A midfield team. The first to achieve a 1-2 this season. Let that sink in.
“Monza - Passion at its best”, more like Monza - Racing at its best.
